Rookie - Lindsay Ackelson

The Rookie of the Year is someone who has been a member of the club less than 2 years and has already shown exceptional leadership and dedication.

Throughout her time with Ad Pros, Lindsay has contributed in many different ways. She first became involved as a student as a liaison with Iowa State students, making them aware of the benefits of being involved with Ad Pros. She also helped out with AdMania as a student with some of the organizational tasks as well as working the night of the event. During the ADDYs last year she helped assist with the entire event. She also contributed to the GRiT student seminar last spring and most recently, has participated on the board as the house co-chair.



Ad Pro of the Year - Jennifer Vogel

This award honors an Ad Pros member who has shown outstanding dedication and service to the Club for ongoing achievements, special efforts or both.


She’s been an Ad Pros member since 2000 and has served on numerous committees and Board positions. In 2003, she was the Club’s AdMania Chairperson. She co-chaired the Student Event while also leading the efforts as House Chair last year. This year, she’s taken on the daunting task of ADDYs and you voted her as Ad Pro of the Year. Some of us know her as JVo or Jenny Go Go, but professionally at Meredith Corporation, she goes by Jennifer Vogel.

Jennifer Vogel was a charter member of Two Rivers Marketing after graduating from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science in journalism and mass communication, with an emphasis in visual communications and marketing. Following her work at Two Rivers Marketing on both the account/creative teams, she began working for Meredith Corporation in their Books Marketing Department as a Marketing & Publicity Design Manager. Vogel oversees the creative/publicity efforts for many of the books launched by Meredith. Recently, her team launched the NBC “Today Show Cookbook” with a campaign kick-off in New York City as well as working with Trading Spaces own Laurie Smith on the unveiling of her new book, also published by Meredith. Vogel has been involved with Ad Pros of Des Moines for nearly five years serving on the Board as House Chair, Chair of the annual GRiT Student Seminar, ADMANIA and this year, taking on the role as 2005 ADDY Awards Chair and currently serves as First VP. In addition to Ad Pros, Jenny is involved at ISU as an Alpha Delta Pi advisor and an active member of St. Francis of Assisi.


AAF Silver Medalist - John Sayles

A lifetime achievement award honoring an individual's entire career.

For two decades, John Sayles’ bold and dramatic style and innovative thinking has seized the graphic design industry.  His namesake studio in Des Moines, Iowa specializes in corporate identity programs, direct mail, package and product development, and three-dimensional and environmental design.  Sayles’ firm has won countless design awards and his work can be found in annuals and museums around the world. John’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the United States Library of Congress, and he has been the recipient of over 1,000 awards for design excellence, including four national ADDY awards.  The firm’s work is regularly featured in international publications including Advertising Age, Applied Arts, Communication Arts, How, Graphics, Print, and Step Into Design magazines.

John has been a member of the Advertising Professionals of Des Moines since 1980 and was named Ad Pro of the Year in 1987.  John gives generously to the community by providing pro bono design services to local non-profit organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa, American Cancer Society, Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa, Des Moines Symphony Alliance and the Beaverdale Business Coalition.
